A Bit of History
In 1994, a group of RI Manufacturers, recognizing that they faced many
of the same business challenges, provided start-up funds and presented
the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) service model to the
Governor, the General Assembly, Representatives of Congress, and the
University of Rhode Island (URI). They next developed a strategic plan
and applied for federal funding, which the State of Rhode Island
received in 1996.
RIMES established operations in June of 1996 at URI in Kingston, RI and,
as demand for its services increased, subsequently moved to Providence
and is now based at the Quonset Industrial Park. Since its inception, RIMES
has evolved from a small engineering services organization to a full-service
strategic manufacturing solutions provider. Led by its 17-member Board
of Directors, RIMES now operates from its headquarters facility in
Providence, RI in partnership with the RI Economic Development
Corporation.
